Family Budgeting

Our Family Budgeting Package is a set of helpful tools to create a spending plan for your family.  It will compare your spending by percent of your income against guidelines based on the size of your family and your monthly income.  This will allow you to adjust your spending to reduce debt, increase giving and plan for the future.

We have trained counselors at our church that can assist you with this process if you need help.

The Family Budgeting Package is a 4-step process:

Step 1: Determine your current debts.
Use the “List of Debts” sheet to calculate how much is owed for consumer debts.  This is for purchases that you pay for over time such as credit cards, home and vehicle loans, student loans, etc.

Step 2: Determine your monthly income vs. your monthly spending.
Use the “Mo Inc vs. Exp” sheets.  The debt information from the first sheet will be entered into section 7 (Debts) on this sheet.

Step 3: Determine what percentage of your income should be spent for the various categories such as Housing, Food, Auto, etc.
Use the “Guideline %” sheet for this.  The one in the sheet is based on a family of 3 or 4.  Others are available online at .

Step 4: Compare your spending with the guideline budget.
Use the “Budget Analysis” sheet to input your existing budget, the monthly guideline, and it will calculate the difference.
Now you have the information to make good decisions on how you will modify your spending to reduce debt, increase giving and plan for the future! If you have any questions on how to use this tool, call Terry Towles at the church office, or send an email.
