LEARNING TO PRAY.

Prayer is powerful! You can talk to many people whose lives have been changed through talking to God. Yet, prayer can also kind of seem like a mystery. Everyone has tried it and everyone has probably felt like they could learn more about it! Here’s a few tips to help you on your jounrey in talking with God!

TIP ONE- Find a Time and a Place

Like anything in life, you get better at prayer the more consistent you are in prayer. That consistency is more easily found when you find a regular time and space.
Find a place where you can get away and focus. Depending on your situation of life, this could be more of a challenge when you have two to fives kids always hanging on top of you. However, finding even a short time where you can go to a quiet place and focus is big, even if it’s a closet! And, it’s what Jesus modeled for us.

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house
and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. -Mark 1:25

TIP TWO- Start with Honesty

The most important thing is to start. Sometimes people can worry about getting it wrong or saying the wrong thing. Yet, God just wants you to reach out to him. We don’t need to pretend. We don’t need to perform. He already knows what you’re feeling. He already knows your thoughts. He’s interested in hearing from you! He wants to connect to you!

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. -1 Peter 5:7

TIP THREE- Write Out Your Prayers

Using a journal can be a great way to talk to God. This is not a “Dear Diary,” but a way to bring focus to your prayer life.

If you’re like me, your mind can easily wander from praying for your family to thinking about what’s for dinner. So taking the time to write out prayers can  help you bring focus.

Also, writing prayers down can be a great way to see how God has answered prayers throughout the year. Many times we start praying for things and forget how God came through in that situation. Looking back and seeing how God came through can encourage in God’s faithfulness for what is next!
